Bloodlines

DWGF_Joe-Alimbuyuguen-02.jpg

Dragon Warrior Gamefarm only uses tested and high quality bloodlines and breeding materials that come from very reliable and experienced breeders in the country and the U.S. When we say tested, it means that a bloodline has been proven to be a winning line in actual competitions in the local derby scene.

Sometimes, even if you buy game fowl in the US, you cannot guarantee that what you will buy will really cut and fight like the fighting style that you want. You cannot just spar the chickens that you want to buy when you are in the US and there is no way of testing how they really can fight unless you want to take the risk while paying good dollars for them and their expensive shipment from the US to the Philippines. Thus, it is sometimes better to get bloodlines from people that you can truly trust with their game fowl breeding over the many years, as they try to improve their breeding stock every year.

The Dragon Warrior Gamefarm is really fortunate to have Kuya Joe Alimbuyuguen – the “master breeder of the Philippines,” as its breeding adviser and dear friend for a long time since he was introduced by a friend, who was his relative.  Kuya Joe has been guiding and advising the farm since breeding materials from him were acquired from year 1995 and the subsequent years that followed. Our farm has the distinction of breeding all the main bloodlines of Mang Joe Alimbuyuguen, who himself has been breeding game fowl warriors for a total of 60 years from second year high school and with formal breeding starting in the year 1974 until now.

He has been able to successfully breed and maintain the quality of his “highly inbred bloodlines” of Howard Belk Gulls and Clarets, Yellow-legged Oakgrove Hatches (Captain line) and Dark-legged Oakgrove Hatches (Vandamme lines),  Duke Hulsey Greys and Hulsey Reds, Blueface Hatch and others over these many years. We are indeed very proud of our friend Kuya Joe Alimbuyuguen for being a great breeding pioneer for the Philippines and for allowing us the honor of breeding all his tough bloodlines as DWGF farm’s gamefowl foundation lines!

Dragon Warrior Game farm’s original breeding materials of Gulls all came from the families of Howard Belk Gulls of Kuya Joe Alimbuyuguen that we acquired from time to time since year 1995, together with other families of Clarets acquired from Kuya Joe over the years.   These Gulls are closest to the English Fowl known as the North Briton fowl. The North Briton fowls where brought to America by English settlers long ago. Kuya Joe A’s Gulls were originally acquired from Mr Howard Belk in 1994 in his farm in California, USA through the help of his friends Mr Vic Gamboa and Mr Willie Suan. They are very fierce and are very powerful hitters! The gulls break high and they fight very much like the Hulsey reds, but they pack more power!  They are evasive and counter punch and are very intelligent. The Gulls are always straight-combed.  The legs of the male fowl are always light yellow or bright yellow.  During the breeding season, some would come out green legged on the hen side, but it should never be in the cock side!  He believes that this was through the infusion of the Irish Brown Red very long ago.  He further said that according to Howard Belk, one in every 120 pullets will come out with white legs!

Gull males sport dark red to lemon red type hackles. The hackles sometimes come out long and full and sometimes it is short – it depends on the breeder’s choice of the brood cocks! Some males have white streamers on the tail while some have none. But it is always black breasted.  On the henside, one in every 75 will come out spangled. If the chickens are bred well, the throwback will always be on the henside, seldom will it come out on the cock side.  But it has happened after we had bred pure Gulls over the same father for 3 generations that we came out with rare spangled Gulls.

The bloodline is very rare in the U.S. and many do not know about it.  Belk did not sell the Gulls to just anybody in the U.S. who can or may fight against him but it was okay if it was Kuya Joe, since he knew that he will bring it to the Philippines.  Belk actually did a background check on Kuya Joe just to make sure that his Gulls will really be brought to the Philippines!  According to Belk, among the families of chickens that he has, the gulls are the ones that he loves the most!

According to Kuya Joe, they are now also called the Whitehackles, but with variations in the bloodline!  Accordingly, very few names have the original Gulls.  Mostly, they are yellow legs and some white legs.  They throw green legs on the female side only because of the Lord Sefton blood (Irish Brown Red blood to her).  So we may say that one big name who has them is Mr Junior Belt, but he won’t part or sell any as it is known that he is a rich guy and very influential.  He will not sell if you will breed it in the U.S.

The Clarets are also related to the Phil Marsh Butchers. Col Madiggin, the original source of Clarets – borrowed broodcocks of Butchers too for his breeding.  This is the reason why the lemon colors also come out of the Clarets. These Clarets were acquired way back in 1935, according to Mr Howard Belk.

The Duke Hulsey Greys of Dragon Warrior Gamefarm has been bred since Feb 1983 or more than 36 years ago, when the original pure Duke Hulsey Greys TRIO was imported from the U.S. by Kuya Joe A. The pure Trio was composed of a brood cock which was straight comb and green leg, one hen was a pea-comb yellow leg and one hen was pea-comb green leg. The Dragon Warrior Gamefarm has continued the tradition of breeding this excellent winning bloodline into the future through the families acquired from Kuya Joe A. The Hulsey greys and Hulsey reds are intelligent fighters which are also “angat sarado.”  From this family of bloodline can be traced the origins of the Hulsey greys and the Lemons that became famous with Bacolod breeders and the whole Philippines.

In 1980, the original imported Oakgrove Hatches of our friend, Mang Joe A produced green legged hatches.  Mang Joe A bought 1 yellow legged broodcock, which was then 5 years old already and is one of the original broodcocks of Eugene Brown (father of Gene Brown), and also acquired 4 olive-green legged Oakgrove Hatch pullets.  In 1994, when Eugene Brown died in the U.S., Mang Joe A acquired again the same Oakgrove Hatch bloodlines from the son Gene Brown – where he got the “19-straight wins” line where 19 stag brothers of Oakgroves won in all their fights in the U.S. Through these many years of intensive breeding and selection process, our master breeder friend, Mang Joe Alimbuyuguen, has removed the impurities and bad genes of this bloodline and has bred and maintained them within the family to be pure, healthy, and robust – which makes them very good and potent broodcocks and fighting warriors that can be fought very pure.  These were the origins of the Dragon Warrior Gamefarm Oakgrove Hatch family of game fowls which we started to acquire for breeding and fighting purposes since the early 1995s and almost every year thereafter.   Almost every year, we would acquire new blood coming from the same families of the Yellow Legged Hatch Oakgrove-Captain line and the Green Legged Oakgrove Hatch-Vandamme line to further improve and purify the genes of our own families of DWGF Oakgrove Hatch lines.

We intend to preserve all the above beautiful and quality foundation bloodlines we got from Kuya Joe into the future by using the breeding techniques that he has generously imparted to our farm as a close  friend. We are honored to continue his legacy of breeding excellence with these very resilient foundation lines that he has kept as pure as possible through meticulous selection, breeding and culling.  The Warrior Gamefarm in Lipa City, Batangas will pursue this tradition of excellence in breeding that was started many years ago by Eugene Brown in the U.S. and since 1980 by our dear friend Mang Joe Alimbuyuguen.  We will continue to breed “Champions” now and going into the future!

We also acquired other battle-tested bloodlines over the years from our breeding friends that we also bred in our farm – like the Dink Fair Sweaters, Possum Sweaters from Carol Nesmith/Dave Lao, Money Maker Sweaters, and the Lemons.  We also have our signature Super Kelsos, Johnnie Jumper Kelsos, and Cardinal Kelsos. For Roundheads, we have Dan Gray Roundheads, Shelton Roundheads, Gilliam Roundheads, and Boston Roundheads.

Aside from our Oakgrove Hatches, we also have the Harold Brown Blue Face Hatches, Melsims Hatches and Gilmore Hatches and yellow legged hatches.  Given the tough competitions today in the country, one is forced to breed and experiment  also with some off-colors so that your fighters are used to their looks – like the English Doms or Buliks, DWGF White Clarets, White Hatches and Hennies, and dark colored fowls like the DWGF Blacks and DWGF Black Butchers.  We continue to experiment in breeding combinations as we continue to develop our own DWGF signature bloodlines per breeding season. We believe that the ultimate objective of a breeder is not only to maintain his winning foundation bloodlines over the years, but also to create his own superior game fowl families that can compete and win versus the best of the best in the game fowl breeding industry.
